For the Mapuche people, original inhabitants of the Patagonia, the territory is a constitutive element of their identity. As usual, the “Conquest of the Patagonia” strides forward according to the old Western logic of the maximum profit exploiting natural resources: vast land surfaces, water, minerals, oil, and biodiversity. The Mapuche people fight to make the Argentinean State respect ist own Constitution in which, from 1994, “the ancestral native people's right to the land” is written.
