The film is based on the novel of the same name by Primo Levi. This autobiographical work tells of Levi’s liberation from Auschwitz and the involuntary Odyssey that followed. His wanderings led him, in the company of other Italians as well as Greek and French nationals, across half of Europe in a state between peace and war. After ten months he finally arrived in Turin, to be welcomed into the arms of his mother and sister.
