The choreographer Cisco Aznar stages the ballet classic “Le Sacre du Printemps” by Igor Stravinsky. “Le Sacre” is a pagan ritual in which sage elders watch a young maiden dance herself to death. She is sacrificed to propitiate the god of Spring. In preparation for his production, Cisco travels to the hinterland of Brazil to participate in Afro-American rituals. He attends animal sacrifice ceremonies and seeks inspiration in trance dances. Will he be able to leave a mark on the classic piece, which has already inspired generations of choreographers, with his own signature?
