After decades of merely “acknowledging” climate change, humanity stands on the brink of collapse. As droughts and floods devastate the planet and global systems fail, the world’s powerful, known as THE BOARD, propose a “fair” solution: a lottery to decide who must die so the species survives. To give the plan a democratic façade, twelve people from around the globe are randomly selected by an algorithm and brought to a secluded, decaying castle. Their task is simple and horrifying: Within twelve hours, they must unanimously decide which third of humanity will be sacrificed. If they fail, the lottery is activated.
