His first “Olowe” was a fake, but by then art dealer Jean David had already fallen in love with the works of Yoruba artist Olowe of Ise (1875-1938). He absolutely had to have a genuine piece of art and set off to find it. However, how can one distinguish between “real” and “fake” art in African Art? David takes us onto a journey into an unknown universe full of beauty and contradictions.
