A day of ordinary justice in a large Italian courthouse. At the centre, in the heart of the building, a hearing: in the docks sits a young criminal and the petrol station attendant who reacted, shot and killed the former’s young accomplice. We see rituals, robes, interrogations, evidences, witnesses. But the film also (or especially?) tells the story of what happens beyond the courtroom: the corridors, offices, ushers, families, children and partners of the accused and of the victims, waiting outside.

Una giornata di ordinaria giustizia in un grande tribunale italiano. Al centro, nel cuore del palazzo, c’è un’udienza: sul banco degli imputati un giovane rapinatore e il benzinaio che, appena derubato, ha reagito, sparato e ucciso l’altro, giovanissimo, complice. C’è il rituale, c’è un linguaggio, ci sono le toghe. Gli interrogatori, le prove, i testimoni. Ma noi vediamo anche (o soprattutto?) quello che sta fuori: i corridoi, gli uffici, il via vai feriale del tribunale, il rumore, il disordine. I compagni degli imputati e delle vittime, fuori, in attesa.
