In the highlands of Paraguay's Chaco region there is a rather unusual piece of Switzerland. Despite the fact that this is an area where it is not easy to survive, a handful of Swiss set themselves a challenge just a few years ago – to break with the past, sell all their possessions in Switzerland, pack their bags and depart for a new life in this part of Paraguay. That is how Rosaleda was born, a place that does not yet have the honour of appearing on any map since it has consists of just the 70-odd inhabitants who settled here after leaving their native Berne, Solothurn, St. Gallen and the cantons of Schwyz, Aargovia, Grisons, Basel and Ticino. The settlement has already lived through its first violent drama. Two of the inhabitants, a husband and wife, were brutally murdered in the month of July. This terrible act of bloodshed upset the little colony, and was widely reported in the media back in Switzerland. The murdered couple are among those who appear in the documentary, unaware of what the future holds in store for them.
In cima al Chaco paraguayano c'è un pezzo di Svizzera molto particolare. È difficile viverci, ma alcuni confederati, qualche anno fa, hanno lanciato una scommessa: rompiamo con il passato, vendiamo quel che abbiamo, facciamo i bagagli e veniamo a vivere qui. Così è nata «Rosaleda», che non ha ancora l'onore di figurare sulla carta geografica perché conta una settantina di abitanti soltanto, venuti da Berna, Soletta, San Gallo, dai cantoni di Svitto, Argovia, Grigioni, Basilea e Ticino. «Rosaleda» ha già dovuto scrivere una sua pagina drammatica. Lo scorso mese di luglio è stata sconvolta da un orrendo fatto di sangue che ha fatto parlare giornali e televisioni a livello svizzero: sono stati trucidati due coloni, moglie e marito. Nel documentario vi sono anche questi due coloni tra i protagonisti, ignari del destino che gli attende.
