The plot unfolds in the vast and barren landscape of Patagonia, in a god-forsaken village, where a young engineer has taken up quarters. He has come to survey the road for the overland transport of a large ship. Mario’s coming is a once-in-a-lifetime event for the villagers, who give him a hero’s welcome. As time goes by, the engineer sinks deeper and deeper into the strange, unfathomable pool of village life in Patagonia. The film is a potpourri of dramatic, funny, bizarre an poetic lives.
