The director is off to Alaska, following in her great-grandfather’s footsteps, to seek the meaning of the two totem poles he brought back to Geneva’s Museum of Ethnography in 1956, and which have lulled the imagination of an entire generation. Her investigation takes her to Annette Island, Alaska’s only native reserve. There, she discovers a people in the midst of an identity renaissance, after years of acculturation. When they learn of the existence of the two Geneva totem poles, a whole part of their history is revealed.
