The Cutucú mountain range lies in the southern Amazon region of Ecuador. Although it has served to protect against ecological damage, for the Indians it was also an obstacle: they had no access to civilisation. The building of roads over the mountain range paved the way for mobility, which was necessary for extracting natural resources and concomitantly gave the Indians access to our world. Excerpts from the film, “Shuar” (1986), remind us that in the Shuar culture, nature was endowed with a soul, and mobility was an endless hallucinogenic high. Today the Indians transport their wood into our world.
