In August 1998 Switzerland's bankers agreed to pay the sum of $1.25 billion as the price for bringing the crisis over missing Jewish funds to an end. This extremely pains-taking investigation, which required several months, takes a close look at the strategies adopted by both sides, the hesitant reactions of the Swiss government, the differences of opinion between the bankers and the politicians, and the ulterior motives of the Jewish organisations and the American lawyers.
