A total of 18 Swiss short film productions and coproductions at the 38th International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand (February 5–13, 2016). Six of these will be screened in competitions.

Four Swiss films were selected for the International Competition: the two productions from German-speaking Switzerland – “Subotika. Land of Wonders” by Peter Volkart (RECK Filmproduktion, Zurich; SRF) and “Just Another Day In Egypt” by Nikola Ilić and Corina Schwingruber Ilić (Cortha Film, Lucerne) – both of which have just been nominated for the Swiss Film Award for Best Short Film; as well as the two short films from French-speaking Switzerland “Babor Casanova” by Karim Sayad (Close Up Films, Geneva) and “Courber l’échine” by Khadija Ben-Fradj (HEAD Geneva).

The animation film “D'ombres et d'ailes” by Elice Meng and Eleonora Marinoni will be screened in the National Competition. The Swiss-French production, coproduced by Nadasdy Film, was honoured with the Pardino d’argento (National competition) at the Festival del Film in Locarno and the Audience Award at Fantoche in Baden.

Filmmaker Eileen Hofer is one of the three jury members of the Compétition Labo, in which “La fin d'Homère” by Zahra Vargas (Louise Productions Vevey, HEAD Geneva) will be screened. Eileen Hofer’s last short film “Nuestro Mar” won the award for Best Swiss Film 2015 at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. “La fin d'Homère” will also be screened in this year’s Berlin Critics’ Week, which runs parallel to the Berlinale for the second time.

Six animation films from Switzerland will be screened in the Jeunes Publics children’s programme, as well as Ursula Meier’s documentary film “Kacey Mottet Klein, Birth of an Actor” about the career development of the young actor who celebrates his major appearance as Switzerland’s Shooting Star at the Berlinale in February.

SWISS FILMS is present with a stand at the Short Film Market in Clermont-Ferrand between February 8-12, introducing the latest Swiss short film productions to international buyers, festival delegates and distributors.
