01.09.2008

The Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul (CHIFFS), held for the second time in the Korean Republic (September 3-11, 2008), will screen the award-winning debut film “Der Freund” by Micha Lewinsky (production: Langfilm, Freienstein) in the international competition. The jury, presided over by Michael Cimino (“The Deer Hunter'' 1978, among others), will determine the winner of the Grand Prize amounting to 30,000 dollars.
In addition, Switzerland is present with two co-productions: “Benny’s Video” (1992) by Austrian director Michael Haneke, a co-production with Langfilm, and the award-winning documentary film of just under three hours “Die grosse Stille” (2005) by German director Philip Gröning, a co-production with Ventura Film, Meride.

The film “Der Freund”, which was honoured with the Swiss Film Prize 2008, and the two co-productions “Benny’s Video” and “Die grosse Stille” thus continue their notable festival careers in Seoul.

Under the festival’s motto of “Discovery, Restoration and Creation”, the CHIFFS will present 170 films from more than 40 countries in 11 sections. The international competition is devoted to hidden film treasures.
