Seven Swiss films shortlisted for a nomination

There is still a long way to go to Berlin. That is where the European Film Awards will be presented on 9 December. But the race for nominations is already in full swing, and SWISS FILMS is particularly pleased with the large number of high-calibre Swiss entries in the shortlist.

On 7 November, we will officially find out which Swiss productions and co-productions have won over the 4,600 members of the European Film Academy and their nominations in the various categories.

Category European Film

In the Feature Films 2023 category, Elene Naveriani's BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD BLACKBERRY, Alice Rohrwacher's LA CHIMERA and Timm Kröger's THE UNIVERSAL THEORY are in the running. All these feature films had their world premiere at the Cannes or Venice Festivals. It should be noted that these three productions may be nominated by Academy members in the European Film, European Director, European Actress and European Actor as well as European Screenwriter categories.

Category European Documentary

In the Documentary Film 2023 category are Lisa Gerig's THE HEARING, which began its career at CPH:DOX (Copenhagen International Documentary Festival), and Alexander Abaturov's documentary PARADISE, which has already won the Award for Best Cinematography (International Competition) at the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in 202

Category European Short film

In the Short Film Candidates 2023 category, the two impressive productions BEEN THERE by Corina Schwingruber Ilić and FLORES DEL OTRO PATIO by Jorge Cadena will be in the running for a nomination.

SWISS FILMS is keeping their fingers crossed that all the candidates will end up in Berlin with a nomination. In 2024, the road to the awards will be shorter as Switzerland will host the European Film Awards at the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL).
