With a large special program, Switzerland is this year’s guest at the Short Film Biennale Ludwigsburg. As part of the event, at total of five programs with over 29 short films from the past 15 years will be presented from July 5 – 9, 2007. The film promotion agency SWISS FILMS organized the special program. Since 1993, the European Short Film Biennale has been taking place biannually on the Baden Württemberg film academy campus. This year’s edition also presents two Swiss productions as part of the European short film competition: the award-winning short film “Wir sind dir treu” by Michael Koch and “Frohe Ostern/Happy Easter” by Ulrich Schaffner.
The selected works range from Pipilotti Rist’s “Pickelporno”, and Micha Lewinsky’s “Herr Goldstein”, to “Hopp Schwiz” by Fulvio Bernasconi. They illuminate the wide variety of Swiss filmmaking in all its facets and will be shown in three thematic blocks with the following, promising names: “Swiss Cliches and Myths”, “Grenzerfahrungen” (Experiencing the Limits), and “The Dark Side of Switzerland.” In addition, the Winterthur International Short Film Festival presents a program with Swiss highlights from the “CHurzfilm competition” (Swiss short film competition) in the “Festival Visits” section. And finally, in the Film School Visits” section, the film program at the School of Art and Design Zurich (HGKZ) showcases films from its rich production over the past 10 years. One of the films presented in this section is “Hotel Belgrad” by Andrea Staka. A delegation of filmmakers and industry representatives from Switzerland will be in attendance at the festival in Ludwigsburg. Among them are directors Michael Koch, Ulrich Schaffner, Gabriel Sandru, and Michael Sasdi, as well as Susann Wach Rosza from the Winterthur Film Festival and Marille Hahne from the HGKZ. Susann Wach Rosza, journalist with the Swiss Television station SF, will participate at a roundtable discussion on “Short Film in Television”, taking place on July 8th as part of the “European Production Day.”

The European Short Film Biennale has been taking place on the Baden Württemberg film academy campus biannually since 1993. With prizes totaling 52,500 Euro, this festival counts among the highly prized award-events in Europe.
