Honor for Fredi Murer

The Zurich Foundation for Western Ethics and Culture (“Stiftung für Abendländische Ethik und Kultur”), has bestowed its annual CHF50,000-prize to Fredi M. Murer. The award ceremony in Zurich on November 26, 2005, includes a musical performance by 13-year-old piano player Teo Gheorghiu who plays the main role of a child prodigy in Murer’s new film “Vitus”. The film’s theatrical release in Swiss movie theatres is planned for February 2006.
Murer received the honor for his collected works, which “shows exemplary expression for Swiss filmmaking.” For the first time in the history of the foundation, the prize goes to a filmmaker.

Since October 2005, Murer’s masterpiece “Höhenfeuer” (Alpine Fire, 1985) has been available on DVD.
