Joel Basman and other Shooting Stars at Zurich Film Festival

10.09.2008

The tour of the Shooting Stars, organised by the European Film Promotion (EFP), will be making a stop from October 3-5 at the 4th Zurich Film Festival (September 25 - October 5, 2008). The actor Joel Basman was Switzerland’s Shooting Star at this year’s Berlinale and also star in the film “A Thousand Oceans” by Luki Frieden, screening in competition. A number of appearances are scheduled for Basman, who is from Zurich, at the festival, together with other Shooting Stars: Maryam Hassouni from Holland, Max Riemelt from Germany and Elio Germano from Italy.

The idea of presenting the Shooting Stars at the Zurich Film Festival was initiated by SWISS FILMS – a founding member of the European Film Promotion. The invitation by the national film promotion agency and the Zurich Film Festival was extended to the Shooting Stars 2008 Joel Basman, Maryam Hassouni and Elio Germano, as well as the German Shooting Star 2005 Max Riemelt – staring in the leading role of “A Thousand Oceans” – and the Swiss Shooting Stars from past years: Martin Rapold, Soraya Gomaa, Michael Finger, Mona Petri, Michael Koch, Johanna Bantzer, Carlos Leal and Nils Althaus. They will attend master classes given by the German producer Peter Rommel and Greek-French screenwriter and director Costa-Gavras. The master classes were organised by the festival and will feature the Shooting Stars on stage on the Talent Night, scheduled on October 3. Joel Basman and Maryam Hassouni will moderate the Public’s Prize on the festival’s closing night, October 4.
