“Lenz”, “Nachbeben”, and “Vitus” at the 2006 Berlinale

23.01.2006

At the 56th Berlinale, taking place from February 9-19, 2006, three Swiss feature films will be part of the official program: In the Panorama section, Stina Werenfels’ cinema debut “Nachbeben” (After shock) will be shown, Thomas Imbach will be presenting “Lenz” as part of the 36th Forum, while “Vitus” by Fredi M. Murer will celebrate its international premiere as a Berlinale Special in the Official Program. The Austrian-Swiss co-production “Slumming” by Michael Glawogger (Co-producer: Dschoint Ventschr) will be featured in the International Competition. Carlos Leal, who received the 2006 Swiss Film Prize for Best Actor, is representing Switzerland at the 9th edition of the Shooting Stars event (February 11-13), where young acting talents from 21 European countries introduce themselves to a wide audience.
At this year’s event, feature films produced in Switzerland are standing in the foreground, while during previous years it had been Swiss documentary films that were showcased. Together with 65-year-old director Fredi M. Murer, who claimed worldwide recognition with his movie “Alpine Fire” twenty years ago, hopefuls such as Stina Werenfels (41), and Thomas Imbach (43) are traveling to Berlin. The collaboration between Swiss production companies and foreign partners is illustrated with the film “Slumming” by Austrian director Michael Glawogger and the feature film “Eden” by Michael Hoffmann (Co-production: C-Films), which will be shown as part of the German Series.

Several additional Swiss films will be featured at the European Film Market, which takes place at the same time and is newly located in the Martin-Gropius-Bau near Potsdam Square. The Swiss promotional agency SWISS FILMS will be among 240 presenters from 45 countries featuring its own information booth.
