Seven Swiss films at Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal

Seven Swiss film productions will be screened at the 39th Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal (October 13-24, 2010). The coproduction “Le quattro volte” (Ventura Film, Meride) by Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino is among the 19 feature films in the International Selection and thus in the running for the Louve d’Or Award.

Seven Swiss film productions will be screened at the 39th Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal (October 13-24, 2010). The coproduction “Le quattro volte” (Ventura Film, Meride) by Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino is among the 19 feature films in the International Selection and thus in the running for the Louve d’Or Award. Six other Swiss film productions will be presented in the festival’s parallel sections.

The film "Le quattro volte" depicts the last days in the life of an old shepherd who is terminally ill. The film was honoured with the Grand Prize at the 28th Festival of Italian Cinema in Annecy just a few days ago. Further screenings are scheduled this month at festivals in Pusan, Gent, Philadelphia, Tokyo and Vienna. It will be released in Swiss cinemas this winter (distributor: Frenetic Films).

The German-Swiss coproduction "David Wants To Fly" (Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) by German director David Sieveking will compete for the Public Prize in the Temps 0 section in Montreal. And screened in the International Panorama are the films "Dirty Paradise" by Daniel Schweizer and the coproduction "Aurora" by Rumanian director Cristi Puiu (Bord Cadre Films, Geneva). Jean-Luc Godard's "Film Socialisme" and Pipilotti Rist's "Pepperminta" will be screened in the Special Presentation section, while the film portrait "Daniel Schmid - Le chat qui pense" by Benny Jaberg and Pascal Hofmann will be shown in the Tributes/Retrospectives section, with both directors in attendance.
