Swiss co-production wins awards in India

The fiction film “Salt Of This Sea” by Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir (co-producer: Thelma Film, Zurich) was honoured with both the Special Jury Prize, amounting to 5,000 dollars, and the FIPRESCI Film Critics’ Prize at the Osian’s Cinefan 10th Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema in New Delhi (July 10–20, 2008). The film celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the “Un certain regard” section.
In her film “Salt Of This Sea”, Annemarie Jacir addresses the subject concerning the return of the Palestinians who had been forced to live in exile after the division of Palestine. A young woman from Brooklyn travels for the first time in her life to the region from which her forefathers were displaced in 1948. On her journey searching for traces of that time, she experiences the impact of the stalemate on those who have remained. The French-Belgian-Swiss co-production will be released by Trigon Film in Swiss cinemas this winter.
