Two Swiss film programmes will be on the move in Latin America during the last two weeks of October. Four feature films and an animation film will be presented in the “Muestra Suiza” at the 17th International Film Festival in Valdivia, Chile (October 14-19, 2010), while four documentary films will be screened in Buenos Aires in a programme entitled “Perspectivas suizas” at the 10th Documentary Film Festival (Muestra Documental Doc, October 15-25, 2010). These film programmes are part of a cultural exchange programme with Argentina and Chile initiated by SWISS FILMS, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Swiss Arts Council (Pro Helvetia).

Debut films will primarily be presented in the Muestra Suiza programme in Valdivia: the feature film "Coeur animal" by Séverine Cornamusaz, which won the Quartz Swiss Film Prize 2010 for Best Fiction Film, as well as "Complices" by Frédéric Mermoud, "Pepperminta" by Pipilotti Rist, "Tannöd" by Bettina Oberli and the feature-length animation film "Max & Co" by Samuel and Frédéric Guillaume. In addition, the festival has also selected Jean-Luc Godard's latest work "Film Socialisme" to be screened in the Gala section.

The following documentary films will be screened in conjunction with the Perspectivas suizas programme in Buenos Aires: "Space Tourists" by Christian Frei; "Goodnight Nobody" by Jacqueline Zünd; "GURU" by Sabine Gisiger and Beat Häner; and "Rio Sonata" by Georges Gachot. The film "Rio Sonata", which portrays Brazilian singer Nana Caymmi, will be presented with director Georges Gachot in attendance. In addition, the Argentine festival will screen the short film "Cotonov Vanished" by Andreas Fontana and Richard Dindo's documentary film "Gauguin à Tahiti et aux Marquises" in the festival's official sections.

The Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente (BAFICI) already honoured Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti with a retrospective in April this year in conjunction with the culture exchange with the two Latin American countries. And the International Film Festival in Santiago de Chile (SANFIC) allocated Swiss filmmaking its own section with the "Mosaico suizo" programme in August.
