Two Swiss short films in international competition in Tampere (Finland)

03.03.2008

Two Swiss short films are being presented in the international competition at the 38th Tampere Film Festival, which runs from March 5 – 9 in the southwest of Finland. The films “René” by Tobias Nölle and “La valise“ by Iranian-Swiss Kaveh Bakhtiari (Louise Productions, Vevey) are both in the running for the UIP Award. The two directors will attend the festival to present their films personally to the audience in Tampere.
The 29-minute film “René” takes a novel approach to depicting loneliness, with actor Urs Jucker in the leading role. The film was released in 2007 and has already been honoured with awards in Locarno, Winterthur and Clermont-Ferrand. The 12-minute short film “La Valise”, which has already won awards in Geneva and Regensburg, is about a retired couple faced with a conflict: after fifty years of marriage, Jeanne plans to go on holiday with one of her female friends – and not with her husband (performed by Maurice Aufair).

The festival in Tampere is the most important and largest festival in Northern Europe for the genre of short film. In addition, more than 600 films of all genres are presented in 120 screenings, with approximately 30,000 visitors attending the festival. Parallel to the festival is also a market offering approximately 4,000 titles, as well as a video festival for children and young people.
