Vaclav Havel Award for “Letter to Anna”

The Swiss documentary film “Letter to Anna” by Eric Bergkraut was honoured with the “Vaclav Havel Award” at the 10th One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival held in Prague from March 5 – 13, 2008. Author, dramatist, dissident and former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel, who presides over the special jury as honorary chairman, will present the prize personally on Thursday, March 13.
“Letter to Anna”, a cinematic portrait of Anna Politkowskaja, the Russian journalist who was murdered in October 2006, was one of the 16 films screened in the competition of the One World Festival in Prague. Eric Bergkraut became acquainted with Anna Politkowskaja while shooting the footage for his documentary film “Coca, die Taube aus Tschetschenien” in 2003. He had more than four hours of previously unreleased interview material in his archive and used it to provide a closer insight into the life of this courageous woman.
