Né en 1957 à Schaffhouse (Suisse). Nationalité italienne et suisse. Travaille depuis 1978 à Zürich en tant que scénariste et comédien. Depuis 1983 réalise des films de commande. 1984 Fonde la maison de production Peacock. 1985 Diplôme de l'Université de Zurich. Depuis 2002 maître de conférences à la EICT (Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television), San Antonio de los Baños, Havanna, Cuba.
Son long métrage SUMMER GAMES (2011) a été inscrit par la Suisse comme candidat aux Oscars dans la catégorie Meilleur film en langue étrangère 2012 et a remporté le Prix du Cinéma Suisse "Quartz 2012", Meilleur film de fiction et Meilleur scénario. QUELLO CHE NON SAI DI ME (2019) a remporté le premier prix au Festival du film des cinq lacs.
