Swiss documentary filmmaking will be honoured with a grand presence at the renowned Festival dei Popoli in Florence (November 13-20, 2010). This year marks the festival’s 51st edition; it ranks among the oldest festivals in Italy. The retrospective – Voices From An Inner Space – and the showcase of works by Peter Mettler were compiled by the Italian documentary film festival in collaboration with SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency. Jacqueline Veuve, Christian Frei, Nicolas Humbert and Peter Mettler will present their films personally at the festival.

The retrospective is called "Voices From An Inner Space". It encompasses thirteen feature and eleven short film productions dating back to the 1960s, ranging from "Siamo italiani" (1964) by Alexander J. Seiler to "C'était hier" (2010) by Jacqueline Veuve. It was curated by festival director Luciano Barisone, who will direct the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon as of 2011, and Jean Perret, director of the festival in Nyon until 2010.

The showcase is devoted to the Canadian-based director Peter Mettler, whose oeuvre encompasses twelve works by now. In addition, his photo exhibition "Notations (For The End Of Time)" will be showing at the Museum Marino Marini in Florence as of November 14.

Apart from these two Swiss sections, further Swiss films from this year will be screened at the festival: "Cotonov Vanished" by Andreas Fontana and "Maye et fils" (Maye And Son) by David Maye will participate in the Short Documentary Film Competition; the film "Nel giardino dei suoni" (In The Garden Of Sounds) by Nicola Bellucci and "David Wants to Fly" by David Sieveking will be presented to the Italian audience for the first time in the festival's Special Events section.
