Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Carmen Jaquier studied graphic design, before co-directing her first short film EAT ME! She then studied film and screenwriting at the art schools in Lausanne and Geneva (ECAL / HEAD – Genève). Her graduation film THE GIRLS’ GRAVE was awarded at the Locarno Film Festival (2011). She continued to explore cinematography and editing within the collective Aamen, bringing together women artists across several disciplines such as experimental video, music, and performance. Carmen Jaquier directed several short films, including AT THE MERMAID PARADE and THE RIVER UNDER THE TONGUE. The latter concludes a trilogy exploring the links between desires, transmissions, and secrets. She is one of the 10 upcoming Swiss directors of the collective feature film WONDERLAND, selected for the International Competition of the Locarno Film Festival 2015. Her debut feature THUNDER (2022) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film received more than a dozen awards at international festivals around the world as well as two Swiss Film Awards. In May 2023, she was honored as “Emerging Talent” as part of the Women in Motion Awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
