A rich Japanese philanthropist, fan of Rousseau, asks an atypical and polyvalent filmmaker to bring the celebrated author's epistolary novel to the screen. The director brings together three young actors in a deserted palace in Clarens and starts to shoot - but Rousseau's epic tragedy will have strong repercussions on the contemporary characters.
