At a service station on the motorway between Paris and Marseille, Abdou, a young runaway, makes the acquaintance of the attendant, who calls himself Georges. Georges decides to quit his job and take the boy to Marseille to see a World Cup football match. Their heads filled with dreams and their pockets empty, the two get to know each other better as they travel along, meeting some rather amazing people on the way. The odyssey is experienced differently by the two travellers however. For Georges it is a matter of coming to terms with the “demons of the past”, when under his real name Ahmed Najid he played professional football for Marseille. For Abdou on the other hand it is a kind of “rite of passage” from childish innocence to worldliness. Each is in search of his identity, the one not yet knowing who he is, the other no longer sure.
