The film accompanies four drug addicts – Evelyn, Susanne, Michel and Markus – during their first two and a half years in a project supported by the city of Berne in which they are distributed heroin under clinical control. It takes the viewer through their successes, relapses, hopes, fears, love and even death. The four freely express themselves about their addiction and, thanks to this project live out their life-and-death struggle of drug dependency, without any need to fear legal consequences.
