In a short period of time, Markus Huser, whose ideas were very much ahead of their time, wrote a key chapter in the history of the deaf. He was an activist to the bone and one of the most important initiators of self-advocacy for the deaf in Switzerland, the advancement of which he played a decisive role in during the 1980s. At the height of his achievements, Markus Huser became very ill. Despite this blow, he fought right up to the end for the self-determination of the deaf and hard of hearing in Switzerland.

Markus Huser ha scritto in breve tempo un capitolo importante nella storia dei sordi e ha precorso i tempi con le sue idee. Il giovane grande attivista sordo era, anzi è, uno dei più importanti iniziatori dell’auto-sostegno dei sordi della Svizzera, che ha accelerato e influenzato profondamente negli anni ‘80. Fra l’altro Markus Huser ha ottenuto che le organizzazioni delle persone sorde ricevessero delle sovvenzioni statali e che i non udenti e le persone audiolese rivendicassero i propri bisogni con maggiore consapevolezza. All’apice della sua opera, Markus Huser si è ammalato gravemente. Malgrado questa sventura, ha combattuto fino alla fine per l’autodeterminazione delle persone audiolese della Svizzera.
