Every year there are 3000 to 5000 new cases in Switzerland of patients having suffered severe brain damage. They are treated in an intensive care unit and thereafter - if they are fortunate - in a rehabilitation clinic suited to their needs. The only rehabilitation clinic exclusively for children and youths in Switzerland is in Affoltern am Albis. Both Corina, age 10, and Manuela, age 12, were in comas for months following serious accidents. Though Corina has since regained consciousness, Manuela has been in a comatose state for over three years-and her parents will never give up fighting for her life.
