Paul, thirty years old, lives with his mother on a small farm in the mountains of Valais, Switzerland. Paul's daily life is punctuated by his work in a carpentry workshop in the valley, his work on the farm and the time he spends looking after his mother. His reunion with Jeanne – a local girl who left the area ten years earlier – during the felling of a majestic larch tree will turn his life upside down: dreams and new prospects begin to take shape.
