The music festival of Römerbad has been a major event on the contemporary music scene since 1973, when impressario Klaus Lauer organised the first of these music sessions at his hotel in Badenweiler, Germany. In 1993, Lauer and music producer Manfred Eicher created a new series of annual events, in association with the ECM label. This gives a public of aficionados a chance to sit in as ECM recording artists demonstrate their creativity, jamming with other performers, in some cases for the first time. Spontaneity is what it’s all about.
