What could anyone have known about the “final solution” in German-occupied Europe (and neutral Switzerland) during the war? Gerhardt Riegner was the first to send news about it from Geneva to the United States. Jan Karski, a courier in the Polish resistance movement, provided an eye witness account to the political leadership of the Allied Powers. Rudolf Vrba informed the leaders of Slovakia’s Jewish community. These three describe their efforts to let the free world know what the Germans meant by the “final solution”, in an effort to stop what it seems could not be stopped.
