Bruno, an insurance agent, has moved to Switzerland with his beloved wife. He comes from an awkward family overshadowed by the memories of a father – a prominent and oppressive artist – that Bruno always hated. Bruno learns, with great sorrow, that he is unable to father children of his own. In the meantime he is being “suffocated” by a debt he has with a money-lender. These events make him retreat into himself. He then has a chance meeting with Luca – a mysterious young man, who it gradually emerges is the son and murderer of the money-lender. Bruno finds himself taking the blame for the killing.

Bruno, assicuratore trasferitosi dalla Svizzera con sua moglie Anna, proviene da una famiglia scomoda, assoggettata ad un famosissimo padre artista che Bruno odiava. Bruno apprende di essere sterile. Oltre a questo, egli è soffocato dai debiti contratti con un direttore di banca, vero e proprio usuraio. Questi eventi lo fanno richiudere sempre più in se stesso fino al giorno in cui incontra Luca, uno strano ragazzo che sembra sapere tutto di lui, e che si rivelerà essere il figlio del banchiere-usuraio. Quando quest’ultimo viene assassinato, e scopre che ad ucciderlo è stato il figlio Luca, Bruno trova un’uscita improvvisa e inspiegabile dal suo isolamento, addossandosi la colpa dell’omicidio.
