Swiss presence at Venice International Film Festival

At the 64th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica, taking place in Venice from August 20 – September 8, 2007, Switzerland will be represented with an animated film in the short film competition as well as two minority co-productions. The 12-minute-long animated film “Dans la peau” by Zoltán Horvath is in the running for the Golden Lion in the Corto Cortissimo section. Co-produced by the Ticino company Ventura Film, the fiction film “Nessuna qualità agli eroi” by Italian director Paolo Franchi - with Swiss actor Bruno Todeschini in the lead role - will be part of the festival competition, while the documentary film “Staub” by German director Hartmut Bitomsky, which is a co-production with Zurich company Dschoint Ventschr, will be shown in the Orizzonti section.
Over the course of the past five years, only three Swiss directors were invited to participate in oldest film festival worldwide, taking place in the Lagoon City: in 2002, western Swiss filmmaker Marcel Schüpbach presented his documentary film “B comme Béjart” as part of a special screening. Greg Zglinski, who was born in Poland and grew up in Switzerland, was invited to show his film debut “Tout un hiver sans feu” as part of the festival competition and received two awards. In 2005, USA-born and Bernese resident Jason Brandenberg participated in the Corto Cortissimo section with his short film “113”.
