Alpine Focus at Les Arcs Film Festival

Including a variety of Swiss short and feature-length films, new projects, with a delegation of filmmakers present

SWISS FILMS is presenting a variety of Swiss feature films, new projects and short films at the Les Arcs Film Festival (December 11-18, 2021) and will be attending the festival with a delegation of producers and filmmakers Also, a fine selection of new and old Swiss films awaits the festival guests in the Alpine Focus. Selected for the Official Competition are the festival darlings THE FAM by Frédéric Baillif and the Kosovar coproduction HIVE by Blerta Basholli. Both films are official submissions for the International Feature Film category of the Academy Awards

A focus on Alpine Cinema 

In partnership with Zürcher Filmstiftung and Cinéforom SWISS FILMS is presenting a selection of over Swiss films in the Alpine Focus of the festival: from renowned classics, such as ALPINE FIRE by Fredi M. Murer to the atmospheric and contrasted SISTER by Ursula Meier, and last but not least OLGA by Elie Grappe, Switzerland's official submission for the International Feature Film Competition of the 94th Academy Awards. 

Official Competition, French premieres and Short Film Competition

The social drama THE FAM by Frédéric Baillif, is screening in the Official Competition. Baillif already received numerous prizes for the film, such as the Berlinale Grand Prix for the Best Film in the 14plus Competition 2021. Also selected for the Official Competition is HIVE by Kosovar director Blerta Basholli. The film is a coproduction with Swiss Alva Film Production and has been submitted by Kosovo for the International Feature Film category of the Academy Awards.

Two Swiss coproductions are celebrating their French premieres: PRESQUE by Alexandre Jollien and Bernard Campan, a coproduction with Les Productions JMH, where two men who couldn't be more different take a roadtrip in a hearse. MADELEINE COLLINS by Antoine Barraud, a coproduction with Close Up Films, tells the story of a woman leading a double life between Switzerland and France.

Further two films are selected for the Short Film Competition: ON SOLID GROUND by Jela Hasler (produced by Langfilm – Berhard Lang AG), premiering earlier this year at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and Short Film Candidate for the European Film Award (EFA), and the World Premiere of  I’VE BEEN HERE ALL DAY by Michèle Flury. 

Coproduction Village and Works in Progress

A delegation of Swiss filmmakers and producers will present their upcoming projects in the prestigious industry programme, such as Tobias Nölle's new experimental feature PREPARATIONS FOR A MIRACLE (Work in Progress) INSECT EMPIRE by Hannes Baumgartner, ORPHEUS by Stéphane Riethauser and THE DOG'S TRIAL by Laetitia Dosch in the Coproduction Village.
