Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ 2009

This year the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ will be awarded for the first time at a gala event in Lu-cerne. On March 7, 2009, Susanne Kunz will host the award ceremony at the KKL Luzern, with 1,300 guests in attendance. The gala event was organised by SRG SSR idée Suisse, together with the Federal Office of Culture and SWISS FILMS. With the Swiss film stars taking centre stage at the award ceremony to celebrate the best of the year in ten categories, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra will highlight the festive setting for the gala evening.
Red carpet for the Swiss film industry on Saturday, March 7, 2009: as of 5 pm, the best in film will walk the red carpet at the KKL Luzern to attend the award ceremony for the “Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ 2009”, scheduled to begin at 7 pm. Awards will be presented to the winners chosen by the jury in the following ten categories: “Best Fiction Film”, “Best Documentary Film”, “Best Short Film”, “Best Animation Film”, “Best Screenplay”, “Best Actress”, “Best Actor”, “Best Emerging Actor or Actress”, “Best Film Score” and “Special Jury Prize”.



Music will also play major role at the gala event, for this year marks 100 years of film scores. This special occasion will be commemorated with the awarding of the “Best Film Score” QUARTZ for the first time. In addition, the festive ambience of the ceremony in the Concert Hall of the KKL Luzern will be highlighted by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Bamert (former director of the Lucerne Festival and former principal conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra). Prominent figures on the Swiss and international film and cultural scene will honour the Swiss film stars with the presentation of the awards. SF moderator Susanne Kunz will host the 1,300 invited guests from cul-ture, politics, business and sport.



The award ceremony is held under the auspices of SRG SSR, in collaboration with the Federal Office of Culture and SWISS FILMS, as well as the Swiss Film Academy, Solothurn Film Festival, the City of Lucerne and KKL Luzern. The nominations in the various categories were announced by the Federal Office of Culture at the Solothurn Film Festival on January 23, 2009 (www.swissfilmprize.ch).




Swiss Film Night on SF zwei, TSR 1 and TSI 1

Promoting and presenting domestic film as a sound partner is a primary and continuous function of SRG SSR. To signify the “Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ 2009” gala event, therefore, three of the SRG SSR television channels – SF zwei, TSR 1 and TSI 1 – will devote Saturday evening, March 7, 2009, to the Swiss film industry:
