Awards for Swiss films in Amiens

19.11.2007

The two actors Kader Boukhanef and Abel Jafri were presented the award for “Best Actor” for their roles in the film “L’autre moitié” by Rolando Colla (production: Peacock Film, Zurich) at the 27th Amiens International Film Festival (November 9 – 18, 2007). The short film “Il neige à Marrakech” by Hicham Alhayat (production: Bord Cadre Films, Geneva) won both the Audience Prize and the “Prix de la Maison d’arrêt d’Amiens”.
The film “L’autre moitié” deals with two 40-year-old twin brothers who were raised separately in Algeria and France and meet for the first time at their mother’s burial in the region of Neuenburg. One brother, Hamid, who has Islamic leanings and is arrested shortly after the funeral, takes the other brother, Louis, to be a police officer. The film tells of the difficulties the two brothers have in getting to know one another, with a striking performance by the two leading actors Abel Jafri and Kader Boukhanef (well known from the film “Tee im Harem des Archimedes” by Rachid Bouchareb 1985). The Swiss-Belgian production made its premiere at the Festival des Films du Monde in Montreal in August and will be screened in Swiss cinemas in 2008 (distributor: Look Now!).
