The mining drama “Cœur animal” by Séverine Cornamusaz which received the award for best film at the Swiss film prize “Quartz 2010” is also attracting international interest. At the 17th International Film Festival Febiofest, to be held in Prague from 25 March to 2 April 2010, the 35-year-old from the Canton of Vaud will be representing Switzerland in the “New Europe Competition” with her debut film which will be one of 13 films from the same number of European countries. “Cœur animal” will also be the only Swiss film presented at the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival (21 March to 6 April), one of the most important film events in Asia.
“Cœur animal” (PS Productions, Vevey) was premiered in August 2009 as part of the competition at the “Festival des Films du Monde” in Montreal. In November, Sévérine Cornamusaz won three prizes at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival, including the FIPRESCI international film critique prize. The presence in Prague and Hong Kong represents a continuation of the international career of the debut work, celebrated as main winner of this year’s film prize at the Culture & Congress Centre Lucerne. Participation in further festivals is planned: at the end of March at the 13th Festival Cinéfranco in Toronto, at the end of April at the 7th Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz, and at the 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival.

There will be a strong Swiss presence at the Febiofest in Prague. In addition to the competition film “Cœur animal”, the films “Giulias Verschwinden” by Christoph Schaub (T&C Film, Zurich) and the film “WerAngstWolf” by Clemens Klopfenstein, produced in 2000, will be shown as part of a homage to the actor Bruno Ganz. The “Upstream” section includes Pipilotti Rist’s “Pepperminta” (Hugofilm, Zurich) as well as the Swiss co-production of the film “Ordinary People” by the Serbian director Vladimir Perisic (Prince Film, Undervelier JU) discovered at Cannes 2009. Finally, in the series “Another Shore” the festival is presenting the film “Soundless Wind Chime” by Kit Hung, a Swiss-Hong Kong co-production (Das Kollektiv, Zurich), shown for the first time at last year’s Forum in Berlin.
