Two Swiss fiction films will celebrate their world premieres in the First Films World Competition at the Montreal World Film Festival. The last time a Swiss film production was screened in this section at the most important festival in francophone Canada was in 2010.

Germinal Roaux’s “Left Foot Right Foot” and Aurelio Galfetti’s “In zehn Tagen bin ich tot” are among the 20 fiction films celebrating their world premieres in the First Films World Competition at the 37th Montreal World Film Festival (August 22 - September 2, 2013). The two directors will present their films personally at the festival. The last time a Swiss film production was screened in this competition for fiction films was three years ago (“Sinestesia”). In addition, Yoav Parish’s eight-minute fiction film “Color Separation,” will celebrate its premiere in the International Short Film Competition. Three other Swiss short film productions are also on the festival programme: the award-winning, six-minute animation film “The Smortlybacks” by Ted Sieger and Wouter Dierickx – a coproduction with China – and the eight-minute fiction film “Hunters” by Michaël Rué. Bigna Tomschin’s “Tapeten,” produced at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), will be screened in the Short Film Competition for Student Films.

Ensnared and on death row
The Swiss-French film “Left Foot Right Foot” (coproduction: CAB Productions) depicts young adults caught up in a society in which money, appearance and self-delusion are everything. The black-and-white film by Germinal Roaux will be released in cinemas in French-speaking Switzerland in October. Galfetti’s film “In zehn Tagen bin ich tot” is set on death row.

Most important festival in the Canadian metropolis
Apart from the Montreal World Film Festival, Swiss film productions will enjoy a regular presence at three other film festivals in the capital city of Québec: at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in October; at the Montreal International Documentary Festival in November; and at the International Festival of Films on Art in March. The Montreal World Film Festival is the most important film festival in the Canadian metropolis and ranks among the world’s leading 12 film festivals.
