05.01.2009

Four Swiss film productions and co-productions will be screened in the programme of the 20th Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs from January 6-19, 2009. Director Micha Lewinsky and his film’s leading actress Emilie Welti will attend the festival for the screening of “Der Freund” (production: Langfilm, Freienstein) in the “Awards Buzz – Best Foreign Language Film” section. This section presents films submitted for an Oscar nomination in the category of “Best Foreign Language Film”. In addition, film producer Anne Walser (C-Films, Zurich) will attend the festival to represent Denis Rabaglia’s fiction film “Marcello Marcello”, which will be presented in the “World Cinema Now” section.
Two other fiction films co-produced in Switzerland will be screened in the “Awards Buzz – Best Foreign Language Film” section: Annemarie Jacir’s film “Salt of this Sea” (co-production: Prince Film, Undervelier JU), representing Palestine, and Sergei Dvortsevoy, who will be representing Kazakhstan – the director’s homeland as well as the setting of the film – with his multi-award-winning film “Tulpan” (co-production: Cobra Film, Zurich), also in the running for an Oscar nomination.

The Swiss delegation has received support from SWISS FILMS, the national film promotion agency, for their participation in the Palm Springs International Film Festival and will also be accompanied by Francine Brücher, who is in charge of international promotion at SWISS FILMS.
