Eleven Swiss short films in Clermont-Ferrand 2019

A total of eleven Swiss short films will be screened at the 41st Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (February 1-9, 2019), three of them in competitive sections. Louis Hans-Moëvi’s INTERCONTINENTAL, produced by École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL), will celebrate its premiere in the International Competition; ALL INCLUSIVE by Corina Schwingruber-Ilić and THE FLOOD IS COMING by Gabriel Böhmer were selected for the Lab Competition. In addition, five short animation films from Switzerland will be screened in the Young Audience programmes, and TOMATIC by Chistophe M. Saber was selected for the Canal+ Collection. SWISS FILMS is present with a stand at the Short Film Market in Clermont-Ferrand.

The short fiction film INTERCONTINENTAL is Louis Hans-Moëvi’s bachelor film (ECAL) and the only Swiss contender in the International Competition in Clermont-Ferrand. The multi-award-winning festival hit ALL INCLUSIVE by Corina Schwingruber-Ilić (freihändler Filmproduktion) is currently screening in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and was just honoured with the Golden Egg at the legendary Küstendorf Film & Music Festival. Gabriel Böhmer’s animation film THE FLOOD IS COMING (Benjamin Steckel) celebrated its premiere at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur and was honoured with the award for Best Swiss Film. The two short films are nominated for the Swiss Film Award 2019 and will be screened in the Lab Competition in Clermont-Ferrand.

Five animation films in the Young Audience programmes

Five short animation films await discovery in the children’s film programmes. Two coproductions will be celebrating their world premieres: A TIGER WITH NO STRIPES by Raul Robin Morales Reyes, coproduced by Nadasdy Film; and HOME SWEET HOME by Chaïtane Conversat, coproduced by JMH & FILO Films. In addition, three short animated Swiss films, released in 2018, will be screened in the Young Audience programme: KUAP by Nils Hedinger (prêt-à-tourner Filmproduktion), which has just won the award for Best Swiss Animation Film at the Solothurn Film Festival; SUNDAY by Gael Kyriakidis and Fanny Dreyer (Ciné3D Association), with its world premiere at Fantoche; and COLORBIRDS by Oana Lacroix (JApictures), which premiered in Annecy.

Christophe M. Saber’s TOMATIC in the Canal+ Collection

Christophe M. Saber’s new short film TOMATIC, coproduced by Box Productions, celebrated its premiere at the Locarno Festival 2018 and will be screened in Clermont-Ferrand in the Canal+ Collection. Zoel Aeschbacher’s BONOBO, last year’s winner of the Audience Award, will be presented in a special programme; and Marjolaine Perreten’s NOVEMBRE in the selection from the La Poudrière Film School.

SWISS FILMS will represent Switzerland’s short film production with a stand at the film market in Clermont-Ferrand (February 4-6, 2019). Detailed information on Swiss short films can be found in our e-booklet SHORTS 2019.
