02.09.2009

Micha Lewinsky’s award-winning fiction film “Der Freund” (production: Langfilm, Freienstein) is among the eleven films selected to participate in the “First Works” competition of the 25th Festroia International Film Festival in Setubal, which runs from September 4-13, 2009. Also in the running for an award is Villi Hermann’s documentary film “From Somewhere To Nowhere”, which will compete in the “Man and His Environment” section.
The fiction film “Masángeles” by the Uruguayan director Beatriz Flores Silva (coproduction: Peacock Film, Zurich) will be screened out of competition in the official selection, and Daniel Zwimpfer’s 4-minute animation film “Manfred”, which was produced at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, will be presented in the Short Film Panorama.

The festival in the Portuguese coastal city of Setubal focuses on European film productions and international independent filmmaking. Over the years, the Festroia Film Festival has regularly invited Swiss fiction films to compete in the various sections: in 2005 “Strähl”; in 2006 “Nachbeben” and “Vitus”; in 2007 “Die Herbstzeitlosen” and “Das Fräulein”; and in 2008 “Fuori dalle corde”. Oliver Paulus was honoured with the first prize in the “First Works” competition for his film “Wenn der Richtige kommt” in 2004.
