08.05.2006

At the 16th Schwerin Art of Film Festival, which ended on May 7th with the award ceremony, Stina Werenfels was given the prize for Best Director for her first-time feature film «Nachbeben» (Aftershock) (Production: Dschoint Ventschr). The award, which comes with a prize sum of 5,000 Euro, is sponsored by the NDR television station. Produced in Germany, the film «Rose» by Swiss director Alain Gsponer won the audience award with a prize sum of 2,500 Euro. Also with a prize sum of 2,500 Euro is the new talent award in the short film competition, which went to «Wir sind dir treu» (We are faithful to you) by Michael Koch. The Swiss actor Bruno Ganz was bestowed with the festival’s honorable award (see press release from May 2nd, 2006).
The feature film jury, including actress Karoline Eichhorn, television producer Cooky Ziesche, director Esther Gron, actor Friedrich von Thun, and director of the Solothurn Film Festival Ivo Kummer, justified their decision on Stina Werenfels’ award as follows: Her film is an intimate play and a metaphor at the same time (…) Each private relationship equals a business agreement: whether it is about investing money or feelings, one is only willing to give if there is something in return. Stina Werenfels describes how this business model enters personal relationships and in turn destroys them. She succeeds in telling a moving and universally true human story. Her focused production style is paralleled with incredibly dense imagery.
