05.03.2008

The film “Glorious Exit” by Kevin Merz (production: Amka Film, Savosa) will run in the international competition of the 30th edition of the renowned “Cinéma du reel” documentary film festival in Paris and its surrounding area, taking place between March 7 – 18, 2008. The German-Swiss co-production “Staub” by Hartmut Bitomsky (co-production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) will also be screened.
The film “Glorious Exit” is about Jarreth Merz, an actor of Swiss-Nigerian extraction living in Los Angeles, who finds himself grappling with his heritage when he learns that his father has passed away. According to Nigerian tradition, the first-born is responsible for a father’s burial, and thus begins a journey of discovery for Jarreth back to his origins and a family he hardly knows. The 30-year-old director Kevin Merz will be present at the screenings in Paris and its suburb of Trappes to answer questions from the audience.

The “Cinéma du reel” Festival has been held in the Centre Pompidou in Paris for thirty years. Under the direction of Marie-Pierre Duhamel-Muller, it ranks among the most important European documentary film festivals and pays particular attention to ethnographic films. Twenty-eight films from twenty-one countries will be screened in the international competition. A five-member jury will award prizes amounting to a total sum of 30,000 euros on March 18.
