Swiss feature film scores box office record

22.09.2003

The Swiss teenage-comedy “Achtung, Fertig, Charlie!” (“Ready, steady, Charlie!") by Mike Eschmann has sold 70,000 movie tickets in only four days placing itself as the number one film at Swiss box offices. Produced by Lukas Hobi (Zodiac Pictures), it takes the lead of films with most successful first runs.
The comedy, which is set a Swiss recruit school (a basic military training camp) instantly reached its target audience, ages 15-25, after having had significant press in the time leading up to its theatrical release. The Federal Department of Defense, even though it was a sponsor of the film, distanced itself from the final version stating that it cast a negative light on the military training.

Buena Vista International (Switzerland), the film’s distributor, started the film with 49 copies. By selling 70,000 tickets, “Achtung, Fertig, Charlie!” accounts for 60% of the movie market in the German part of Switzerland.
