05.10.2005

At one of the oldest European film festivals, the 50th Cork Film Festival in Ireland, taking place from October 9-16, 2005, Swiss short films will be featured in various programs. In the “Free Radical” section, experimental, animated films “Rush” by Geneva resident Claude Luyet (Studio GDS) and “Restored Weekend” by Gerd Gockell (faculty member at the Lucerne School of Art and Design) will be shown. Luyet’s movie already participated at international film festivals, such as in Clermont-Ferrand, France. “Hi Maya” by Zurich resident Claudia Lorenz (Zurich School of Art and Design) is presented in the “Outlook Women’s Shorts” program. The film has previously been awarded several prizes, among them the UIP Short Film Prize in Berlin which automatically makes it eligible for the 2005 European Film Award.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this traditional festival, a three-day international short film symposium is taking place in the city of Cork which is also one of this year’s European Capitals of Culture. At this event, the importance of short film as its own genre will be discussed at numerous panels. Participating are filmmakers, festival directors, film scholars, journalists and film agencies. A Swiss delegation with film scholar Mathias Brütsch and SWISS FILMS short films representative Simon Koenig will be in attendance.
