«Vitus» and «Nachbeben» in competition at Setúbal (Portugal)

31.05.2006

Fredi M. Murer’s «Vitus» is one of fourteen films competing for the Golden Dolphin at the 22nd Festroia – Festival Internacional de Cinema in Setúbal (Portugal), taking place from June 2-11, 2006. The film «Nachbeben» (Aftershock) by Stina Werenfels (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) will be shown in the «Primeiras Obreras» competition section along with 13 additional «First Works». The short feature film «Hoy Maya/Hi Maya» by Claudia Lorenz will be presented in the «Europe in Shorts – Humor in the Feminine» program. The festival in the Portuguese coastal city of Setúbal has European film production and international independent film as its primary focus.
The two Swiss feature films «Vitus» and «Nachbeben» (Aftershock) both began successful international festival tours at the 2006 Berlinale, and both films have had international acclaim (e.g., Vitus distribution abroad, awards for «Nachbeben» in Viareggio and Schwerin). Fredi M. Murer will be in attendance at the screening of his film.

The short film «Hoi Maya/Hi Maya» (Production: School of Art and Design Zurich) has also had a longstanding festival career. Its success began at Locarno in 2004 and the film has since been shown at several international festivals around the globe, including the 2005 Berlinale along with smaller thematic events. It received numerous awards, among them the Prix UIP in Berlin, which included a nomination for the European Film Prize.

At this Portuguese festival, Swiss filmmaking has had a positive resonance since the «Focus Switzerland» event held in 2003. In 2004, «Wenn der Richtige kommt/When the Right One Comes Along» won the prize for Best New Talent in the «First Works» section. Last year, «Straehl» screened in the «First Works» competition section and its award-winning main actress was invited as the 2005 Swiss Shooting Star together with eight of her European colleagues.
