«Vitus» in the running for Oscar nominations

The film «Vitus» (Hugofilm), which has been an audience success in the German part of Switzerland with more than 190,000 movie tickets sold, will be carrying the Swiss flag in the running for the Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Film. This most recent feature film by Fredi M. Murer, which also represents Switzerland at the nominations for the European Film Prize, tells the story of a young piano virtuoso, who - with the support of his grandfather (Bruno Ganz) - refuses to sacrifice his youth for the sake of art.
The world premiere of «Vitus» took place at the Berlinale, where the director (who also produced «Alpine Fire», 1985, among others) was honored with a Bronze Bear for his complete work. «Vitus» played in the competition section at Setúbal, at the Festival des films du monde in Montreal as part of an homage to Bruno Ganz, as well as at this year’s Locarno International Film Festival. Currently, it is in the festival program at San Sebastian, and it will soon be shown at the Festa Internazionale di Roma (October 13-26). The film will be released in German movie theatres on December 21, and its distribution rights have already been sold to over 30 countries in Europe (Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Spain, Scandinavia, Israel), in Asia (Japan, China, Korea), and in America (USA, Mexico, Brazil).
